Job description:

A leader in the aerospace industry, the company is growing rapidly and has a number of exciting positions based at its Leighton Buzzard facility, including a Quality Control Team Leader.

As the Quality Control Team Leader you will assist in all aspects of the day to day running of Quality Control. In the absence of the Quality Manager you will have responsibility for the whole range of their duties as directed, and also ensure you develop relationships with stakeholders across the organization to including, Purchasing / Supply Chain, Operations, Program and Engineering. 
 
Key Quality Control Team Leader responsibilities include:
 - Provide support for development and implementation programme quality plans, projects, and procedures using statistical quality control statistics, lean manufacturing concepts, and six-sigma tools and analyses. 
 - Ensuring that performance and quality products conform to established company and regulatory standards. Reviews, analyses and reports on quality discrepancies related to assembly, process, mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems.
 - Fully support the business in the successful development and launch of New Products in line with Quality Assurance requirements, as well as engineering change management of supplied components. 
 - To work with suppliers to achieve quality, cost, innovation, delivery and management targets.
 - Directly managing a team of Quality Engineers and Inspectors, with dotted line responsibility for individuals based in the overseas Just in Time Centres (JIT) in France and the Philippines
 - Feedback quality problems to the production team and find a solution to improve quality level.
 - Ensure the effective and efficient operation of team to provide quality improvement leadership.
 - Manage special projects for production support activities.
 - Conduct customer meeting and follow up improvement activities.
 - Produce training materials and curriculum for team members as appropriate.
 - Participate in forward planning activities.
 - Stand in while engineers are out of their duties and substitute their work or allocate duties to other engineers in section.
 - Administer and control practices in the area of safety, human relations, quality, cost, organisation, and delivery targets for respective areas.
 - Execute and implement quality activities in compliance with company goal.
 - Initiate and complete reports tracking Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and other administrative tasks as required.
 - Encourage continuous improvement activities (Process, Facilities, Man, and Materials).
 - Build and maintain good working relationships with team members and management.
 - Support gate reviews to ensure robust delivery of NPI programmes
 - Provide support on technical issues with suppliers
 - Review First Article Reports, along with APQP / PPAP packs to ensure design robustness & reliability targets are achieved
 - Generate & provide weekly / monthly progress reports
   
You will be a highly motivated self-starter, and a dedicated team member who is customer focused, detail orientated. You will possess good written and communication skills. You may be expected to travel on company business as part of your duties to both UK and overseas.
 
The Ideal candidate will have the following:
 - HND/C qualification in engineering, quality or other technical field (or equivalent) or Bachelors degree qualification
 - Aerospace industry experience
 - Leadership experience
 - Strong quality and continuous improvement background gained within medium to high volume manufacturing ideally operating within a POA and DOA environment.
 - Problem Solving Skills with in an engineering environment - preferably 8D / DMAIC
 - Continuous Improvement and 5S Mindset
 - Able to read, understand and interpret engineering information
 - Effective communicator at all levels
 - Managing direct reports and leading teams
 - IT literate - Effective use of Microsoft Office software; Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access
 
The following would be an advantage:
 - Lean Six Sigma (Green Belt ideally)
 - Process Mapping / VSM/ DIMAIC
 - Operating within a POA and DOA environment.
 - Knowledge and understanding of Quality and or Aerospace Standards ( ISO 9000, AS9100, EASA Part 21, EASA Part 145)
