Job description:

As a Senior Data Engineer at the Centre of Artificial Intelligence you will design and implement fault-tolerant data pipelines to integrate large amounts of data from many diverse storage systems. This challenging role requires a strong academic background (minimum Masters in Computer Science or other engineering discipline) with in-depth knowledge and working experience with distributed systems and programming skills in Scala or Java. 

Our client's Corporate Sector Research and Advance Engineering is in charge of designing, testing and exploring systems, components and technologies. Our innovations consistently aim to achieve an improvement in the quality of life. Renningen, near Stuttgart, is the hub of the company's global research and advance engineering activities. Here around 1,600 employees from the center for research and advance engineering are developing new materials, methods and technologies, along with new systems, components and production processes.

Your contribution to something big:
 - Design and implement fault-tolerant data pipelines to integrate large amounts of data from many diverse storage systems
 - Promote a culture of self-serve data analytics by minimizing technical barriers to data access and understanding
 - Execute complex data engineering projects that have a significant impact on the company's global business
 - Share knowledge by clearly articulating results and ideas to customers, managers, and key decision makers
 - Stay current with the latest research and technology and communicate your knowledge throughout the enterprise Take responsibility for preparing data for analysis and provide critical feedback on issues of data integrity
 - Up to 10% travel may be required
Skills & Experience: 
 - Master in Computer Science or other engineering discipline
 - In-depth knowledge and working experience with distributed systems
 - Programming skills in Scala or Java
 - Strong understanding in tuning and performance optimization of Apache Spark jobs
 - Experience with integration of data from multiple data sources
 - Experience with various messaging systems, such as Kafka or RabbitMQ
 - Ability to manage and solve ongoing issues with a Spark/Hadoop cluster

Familiarity with distributed machine learning
frameworks like Spark MLlib and general understanding of machine learning / deep learning methods
